21 July 2017 – A bilateral meeting between the Minister of Infrastructures and Transport, Graziano Delrio, and the Minister for Transport of the Czech Republic, Dan Tok, was held this morning.
“It was a fruitful meeting on the key issues of mutual competences - Minister Delrio stated – as well as on mobility and public transport infrastructures, with particular attention to the Italian High-Speed Railway System, on competition and road safety issues between our two Countries that have always had good relations”.
As for the Italian high-speed railway system, the Czech Minister asked for additional information on railway networks and service, as well as liberalization, considering that Italy is the leading Country in this sector at European level, in which has achieved an overall improvement of the railway services offered.
Minister Delrio has presented the ongoing projects along the European Corridors and in the South of Italy, drawing particular attention to the railway line linking Genoa to the Swiss border and the “Terzo Valico" railway tunnel , as well as the upgrading of the whole railway line in order to ensure the connection of Genoa sea Port with the heart of Europe, along the Gotthard axis, including the Brenner Base Tunnel and the Tyrin-Lyon Base Tunnel, which are all very important engineering projects and which will ensure, along with the development of the railway lines crossing Italy, the shifting of passenger and freight transport from road to rail, the direct connection of the sea Ports to the high-speed railway freight lines. Minister Tok has expressed great interest and appreciation for Italian technology and experience, in view of the high-speed railway network’s development in the Czech Republic.
As for the road safety issue and the adoption of ad hoc measures in order to tackle this serious problem in the whole European Union, Minister Delrio has informed Minister Tok about the introduction of road murder as a crime in Italy, as well as the intention of Italian Government to introduce more severe criminal penalties for those using mobile phones while driving; Minister Delrio also expressed his support for implementing cycling policies through the National Plan for Cycle Route Networks, as well as his intention to develop road maintenances activities.
To conclude, Minister Delrio has stressed the high technological and innovative level of Italian Companies operating in the Czech Republic.
