Graziano Delrio, Minister of Infrastructures and Transport - Italy
Graziano Delrio was appointed Minister of Infrastructures and Transport under Renzi Administration on April 2th, 2015. Previously he held the position of Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Secretary of the Council of Ministers, in charge of Territorial Cohesion Policies and Sports. Before, he was Minister for Regional Affairs and Local Autonomies with responsibility for Sport activities under Letta Government.
Graziano Delrio was born in Reggio Emilia in 1960.
He is a doctor and researcher at Reggio Emilia and Modena Universities, with specialism in Endocrinology, following further studies in Great Britain and Israel.
His political commitment started in the late 1990s: in 2000 he was elected Councilor of the Emilia Romagna Region, where he chaired the Commission for Health and Social Policies.
In 2004 he was elected Mayor of the Reggio Emilia City Council “Città del Tricolore”; in 2009, his mandate was renewed for the second time.
He was President of the National Association of Italian Municipalities, from October 2011 to April 2013.
As Mayor of Reggio Emilia he chaired the Committee promoting the campaign for the reform of the right of citizenship “L’Italia sono anch’io” ( I also belong to Italy), which was promoted by the major organizations and social associations.
He has written two books on his experience as Mayor as well as member of Italian Government: "The city of people. Emilia, Italy and the new idea of good governance " (2011, Donzelli) and "Changing Italy. Renewing Policy for regaining confidence" (2015, Marsilio).
